Troubleshooting

How to Tell Your RV Plumbing Needs Repair

RV plumbing failures fall into three categories: water-supply issues (pump, lines, faucets), waste-side issues (toilet, tank valves, drain lines), and tank-monitor issues. Symptom plus location together identify the system. Most repairs use parts under $100 and complete in under 90 minutes of labor. Use the list below to triage before calling.

Water pump runs constantly without shutting off

Indicates a leak somewhere in the pressurized water system. Common locations: under-sink connections, water heater fittings, toilet supply line, exterior shower box, or behind a slide-out where lines flex. Diagnostic uses a pressure-hold test to isolate the leak.

Water pump cycles on and off when no faucet is open

a small leak the pump compensates for repeatedly. Often a worn faucet cartridge or a slow-leaking PEX fitting. Same diagnostic approach as the constant-run case.

No water pressure or weak flow at all faucets

failed water pump, blocked inlet screen, or empty fresh tank. Check tank level first; pump replacement is the most common root cause when the tank is full.

Pump runs but no water comes out

loss of prime, often after running the tank dry or after winterization. Re-priming is straightforward. If re-priming fails, the pump is failed or the inlet line has a leak that draws air.

Toilet water won't shut off / continues running into the bowl

failed water valve at the toilet base. Rebuild kits and complete valve replacements are stocked on the truck for Dometic, Thetford, and Aqua-Magic toilets.

Toilet leak at the base

failed flange seal or floor flange itself. Floor flange repair requires removing the toilet; rebuild kits include the seal.

Black tank valve won't close fully

debris caught in the blade or a worn blade. Both situations require valve replacement; "cleaning out" rarely produces a long-term fix.

Tank sensor reads "full" when empty (or vice versa)

sensor fouling from waste residue, failed probe sensor, or wiring issue. SeeLevel II strip-sensor conversion is the recommended permanent fix.

Slow drain at sink or shower

partial clog in the gray tank vent or the drain line. Snake-and-clear service available.

Many RV plumbing failures are accelerated by hard water and improper winterization. Annual de-winterization service catches developing leaks before peak-season use, and post-freeze plumbing inspections often find damage at multiple locations beyond the visible leak. Mobile RV Pro performs both as part of seasonal service; ask when scheduling.

What Does RV Plumbing Repair Cost?

Costs vary by repair location, parts brand, and access conditions — some tank valves and PEX runs require removing access panels or insulation. The ranges below reflect typical labor costs in Mobile RV Pro's service areas. Parts are quoted separately and approved by the customer before work begins. A $90 service-call fee applies once per repair job.

Repair TypeTypical Labor RangeNotes
Water pump replacement $390 – $560 SHURflo or Flojet stocked; most complete in one visit
Faucet replacement (kitchen or bath) $310 – $470 Dura Faucet or upgrade; brand-matched on request
Outdoor shower repair $280 – $410 Hose, valve, or full exterior box assembly
Toilet rebuild (water valve + seal kit) $280 – $410 Resolves majority of toilet leaks and flush issues
Toilet replacement (full unit) $540 – $880 Includes new floor flange seal
Black or gray tank valve replacement $390 – $620 Access conditions drive labor; per valve
Tank valve cable / handle replacement $280 – $410 When valve operates but cable broken
PEX line repair (per joint) $310 – $470 Typical post-winterization failure repair
Pressure regulator replacement $280 – $390 Inlet protection for high-pressure parks
Hidden leak diagnostic (pressure-hold test) $270 – $450 Service call + 1–2 hr diagnostic; applied to repair if authorized

Mobile RV Pro provides a written estimate on-site before any work begins. Most water pump, faucet, and toilet repairs complete in a single 1–2 hour visit because high-failure-rate parts are stocked on every truck. Tank valve replacements, PEX repairs, and SeeLevel installations vary more widely with access difficulty. Hidden leaks are isolated with a pressure-hold test — most are located within the first hour of diagnostic time.

Mobile vs. Dealership

Mobile RV Plumbing Repair vs. RV Dealership Repair

RV dealerships typically book plumbing repairs 3–8 weeks out, require you to haul the RV in, and charge storage fees while parts are sourced. Mobile RV Pro brings the diagnostic and the repair to you, usually within a week, with most common failures completed on the first visit.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

A constantly-running water pump means there's a leak somewhere in the pressurized water system. Common locations include under-sink connections, water heater fittings, the toilet supply line, the exterior shower box, and PEX lines that flex behind slide-outs. Mobile RV Pro runs a pressure-hold test to isolate the leak without invasive disassembly — most leaks are located within the first hour of diagnostic time. Replacement parts for pumps, fittings, and common leak points are stocked on every truck.
The most common cause is a worn flush ball seal — the rubber gasket at the bottom of the bowl that opens when you flush. The fix is a rebuild kit that includes the flush ball, seal, and water valve. Rebuild kits for Dometic 300/310/320, Thetford Aqua-Magic V, and Sealand toilets are stocked on every truck. A full rebuild typically takes 30–60 minutes on-site and costs less than half the price of replacing the toilet.
Cleaning sometimes works for the short term, but probe-style sensors are inherently failure-prone in RV waste tanks because residue continually coats the probes. The permanent fix is converting to SeeLevel II strip-style sensors, which mount to the outside of the tank and read the level through the wall. Conversion runs approximately 1 hour per tank installed, plus parts. After conversion, sensor accuracy typically remains correct for the life of the RV.
It depends on the damage. A frozen line that cracked at one fitting can be repaired per joint. A line that split lengthwise from extended freezing requires section replacement. Mobile RV Pro inspects the full plumbing system after a freeze event because cold damage often shows up in multiple locations, not just at the visibly leaking spot. Catching the secondary cracks on the same visit avoids a second freeze-thaw failure later in the season.
Water pump replacement: 1–1.5 hours on-site. Faucet replacement: 30–60 minutes. Toilet rebuild: 30–60 minutes. Toilet replacement: 1–1.5 hours. Tank valve replacement: 1–2.5 hours depending on access. PEX repair: 30–90 minutes per location. SeeLevel sensor install: approximately 1 hour per tank. Most plumbing service calls complete in a single 1–2 hour visit.
Mobile RV Pro plumbing service follows a two-visit process by default. Visit 1 is the diagnostic visit: the technician arrives at your location, identifies the leak or failed component, and writes an estimate. The $90 service-call fee covers this visit. If the failed part is one of the high-failure-rate items stocked on the truck — water pump, faucet, toilet rebuild kit, common tank valve, PEX fittings, sensor kit — and the customer approves the estimate on-site, the repair is often completed on the same visit. For specialty parts and SeeLevel installations, a repair visit is scheduled within a week. The $90 service-call fee applies once per repair job; hourly labor at $180/hour covers the repair work.
